摘要

本文旨在分析来自英国在香港的殖民统治经验，包括香港的学校注册制度，及与香港有密切关系的首批华文教育官僚（即“华文视学官”），对塑造马来亚华文教育的影响。通过以殖民统治为中心，本文试图就马来（西）亚早期的华文教育提供相对于民族主义的另一视角，借此揭视英国殖民统治的特征。

Abstract

This thesis aims at sorting out the development of Chinese education in Malaya before the Second World War by referencing the experience of School Registration and the inspector of schools in British Hong Kong. Centred on British colonial governance, it provided another angle to explain the early development of Chinese education in Malaya than the Chinese nationalism.
