From Behind the Enemy Lines to Liberation: Activities of MPAJA in Pengerang (1943-1945)

摘要

太平洋战争期间，马来亚处在日军统治之下。在柔佛的边佳兰（Pengerang）地区，马来亚人民抗日军自1943年起便活跃于此间，从事各类敌后骚扰、宣传及破坏活动。1945年战争结束，日军投降后，马来亚人民抗日军曾一度接收边佳兰地区，进行实质管治，直至1945年底为止。本文通过梳理包含口述、回忆录及资料集等传世史料，藉此审视从日据至光复初期，马来亚人民抗日军在边佳兰的事迹，探讨其在战时抗日大局及战后初期地方治理所扮演的角色。

Abstract

During the Pacific War, Malaya was under Japanese rule. In Pengerang area of Johor, the Malayan People’s Anti-Japanese Army (MPAJA) has become active here since 1943, engaging in various of distraction and deception, propaganda and sabotage actions behind the enemy lines. After the end of the war in 1945, MPAJA took over the Pengerang area from the surrendered Japanese troops, and carried out substantial governance until the end of 1945. This article reviews the deeds of MPAJA in Pengerang from the Japanese occupation period to the early days of the liberation, and discusses the influence of this particular history on the overall situation of the anti-Japanese war as well as post-war governance issue in this region.
