互为表里：战前华校联合运动会的源起与形塑

摘要

英政府于十九世纪开始，每遇重要的庆典，皆以举办运动会做为庆祝活动的项目之一。随后，英校也开始定期的举办英校之间的联合运动会。而马来亚各地区最初的华校联合运动会之所以得以成功的举行，即是受到当时华人社会环境的影响，促使华校成功的办理一州或一地区，甚至是全马来亚为概念的华校联合运动会。本文仅就华校联合运动会的发展，以及其所涉之事进行梳理，讨论运动会如何发展为华校联合运动会？而举办华校联合运动会具有哪些意涵，其与华人社会之间的关联意义何在？以期能开展对华人社会文化理解的深广程度。

Abstract

Starting in the 19th century, whenever the British colonial government in Malaya held major celebrations, organizing sports events became one of the activities for these occasions. Subsequently, British schools also began regularly organizing interschool sports competitions. The initial success of the Chinese Inter-School Sports in Malaya was largely influenced by the socio-cultural environment of the Chinese community at the time. This environment helped the Chinese schools successfully organize regional or even nationwide Chinese Inter-School Sports events. This article aims to trace the development of the Chinese Inter-School Sports, exploring how this event evolved, its significance, and its cultural connections with the Chinese community. By doing so, we aim to deepen our understanding of Chinese culture in Malaya.
